Remembering Wayne Static~
I will never forget the first time that I heard Static-X: I was working at Sam Goody with my friend Troy, and he wouldn’t shut up about this new band he had heard. He had two songs on a sampler which he put it on in the store, and that was the first time I heard ''Push It'' and ''Bled For Days'', I was hooked, and from that moment on I was a lifelong fan. So much so that it influenced my own band at that time, Ritual Fixx, and you could hear their influence in our songwriting. Jump ahead many years to when I started as a publicist: I had slowly been making a name for myself, but I was still pretty unknown in the music world when I found out that my friend, Jared, knew Wayne Static’s manager, Rob. Wayne had just put out his solo record, which I absolutely loved, and so I kept bugging Jared to introduce me, which he finally did. We finally had a call, and, amazingly, Rob and Wayne decided to hire me to handle his tour. Rob and Wayne did not have to take a chance on me, but they did, and it changed my life, helping me breakthrough in a very tough industry. Wayne was so good to me in our time together, and I even had the chance to hang out with him a bit in a parking lot after a show where we talked about our shared love of the band Journey. I wish Wayne had been alive when Neal Schon of Journey hired me; he would have loved that. I worked with Wayne for the last three years until he passed away; that was so hard. He was loved by so many people, and he truly was a great guy. Wayne taking a chance on me is the kind of favor you can never fully repay, but I know he appreciated the work I did for him because he told me many times. I miss my friend, a true legend, who left this world way too soon. -Tom George/TAG Publicity
