METAL PULP AND PAPER: Hello Jake. So glad to be catching up with you. Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for Metal Pulp And Paper about the upcoming 2019 Aftershock Festival that you are slated to be playing at in Sacramento, California coming this October.
Aftershock is a monstrous event for music fans and music lovers everywhere. It’s metal, it’s rock and roll, it’s more metal, and it’s more rock and roll. To sum it up, it’s a three-day event with three stages, with over 50 artists at the Discovery Park in beautiful Sacramento, California. Are you geared up and ready for it?
JAKE DUZSIC: We've been on the road a lot this year, so in that regard we are fairly tour tight. However, when you show up to a big fest with no real warm up it's always a little nerve racking. You have to cross your fingers and hope it all goes well.
MPAP: Tell us some of the best things about being a part of a music festival, especially playing at one of this magnitude?
JAKE: It's just exciting to be a part of an event with so many great artists. We don't often get the chance to play on such a heavy line up, so we are looking forward to soaking in the scene after we finish our show. We are playing day two but we are going to stick around for the rest of the fest so we can hang out, check out the bands, people watch, etc.
MPAP: Explain to us what is a day in the life when you’re performing at a music festival? Do you go hang out with the other bands, mingle with the fans, or kick back and relax on the tour bus until it’s time to hit the stage?
JAKE: It depends on the festival and what your schedule allows for, but typically speaking we like to be active; we check out the grounds, hang with friends that might be sharing the bill, hit catering and watch music. We aren't really big on just going back to the hotel or hiding out in the dressing room.
MPAP: This year’s bill has Slipknot, Staind, Tool, Korn, along with many others, including Lamb Of God, Highly Suspect, Gojira, and Babymetal. Is there any group that you’re especially looking forward to watching from the side stage the day you perform?
JAKE: Tool... Though I doubt we will be able to get side stage for that.
MPAP: What’s in the crosshairs for Health after the festival? What else do you have going on after that we should all know about?
JAKE: We have a few festivals in Mexico in October Adult Swim Fest in LA in November, and then in early December we are heading out on a co-headline run with Daughters with Show Me The Body opening. That tour will be epic.
MPAP: On behalf of myself and Metal Pulp And Paper, thank you, Jake, for taking the time to answer a few questions. We look forward to what Health does to finish out 2019 and beyond.
Any last words for all your fans and all the Aftershock Festival maniacs out there that will see you in October? What do you want to tell them so they will go out and buy tickets and travel to California to see you and many others play live?
JAKE: Dude, if you are read this whole interview you are definitely in the target audience, get a ticket.
