GAS MONKEY LIVE |
DALLAS, TX

TOUR SUPPORT: SEVENDUST | TYLER BRANDT & THE SHAKEDOWN
I don’t think many would argue that a bill with SEVENDUST, CLUTCH and TYLER BRANDT & THE SHAKEDOWN is a show that lacks any of the luster that we all crave in a rock show. Now, if you haven’t heard of TYLER BRANDT & THE SHAKEDOWN then you need to look them up immediately because these fellas can throw it down and for real, shake it up on stage! With an air of the 70’s mixed in their modern rock melodies, the band has a sweet way of delivering a party style rock show that will warm up any crowd.
What I love about this bill is the way the energy builds up within the three bands and their time slots. I mean you get an earful from TYLER BRANDT & THE SHAKEDOWN that will put the swagger in your step as you walk over to the bar like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and grab a drink. But by the time you’re back in your seat or by you gaggle of friends that have saved your spot, you’ve come to your senses in wishing there was a lighted dance floor and a girl in a pink dress with feathered hair. Because at that moment, you’re suddenly snapped out of the era where shirt collars were nipple length and immediately slammed with the searing riffs of America’s Greatest Heavy Rock Band (that was jilted from the Grammy, ya, we still remember that night GHOST fuckers) of the 2000’s SEVENDUST!
For 45 minutes the assault does not cease as the band hits you with all the hefty hitters from their entire catalog. I mean there is no other feeling in the world than to be sung to by Lajon as Vinnie and Morgan punch you in the throat with their booms and basslines! And the energy strummed out on Clint and John’s guitars will attach to you like the fabric softener sheet getting stuck to the inside of your pants. Only the guitars would be more welcome than that itchy dryer sheet, that’s for sure! I think SEVENDUST is one of my favorite shows to see live. I meant there’s not a rock show that you can get down and jiggy with like these guys.
Now, you might think you couldn’t possibly take more after you finally catch your breath from SEVENDUST, but you will because you see my Pretties, where you’re about to be taken by CLUTCH is right where you stand. And well, if you don’t know what I mean by that, you will have to see for yourself when you go to a CLUTCH show. You might, and I mean might not get the cardio you can get from a band like SEVENDUST but you’re gonna go on an energetic journey in a rabbit hole with Neil and the band, I can tell you that right now.
CLUTCH conjures the attention of the audience with TIM's thick and muddy guitar parts, the highly charged thump and peals of JEAN-PAUL’s drumming that are fused with the gurgling lows of DAN's bass, a foundation is created for the characters and storylines that reside in every song. American Rock used to be great at telling stories but has fallen short over the last couple of decades. Rock music seems to be poised at how an artist processes the content of a musician’s emotions or other what the other characters of a story have done instead of simply telling the story as a means of processing life experiences. Well, except CLUTCH. They are beasts at creating epic tales within the measures of their music and they have one of the best spinners of the proverbial yarn at the helm, NEIL FALLON.
"Book of Bad Decisions" just redefined the American Rock album not only with the music but with wildly vivid and alluring tales perfectly performed by a boisterous raconteur. NEIL is a master with persona in songs like Emily Dickinson and In Walks Barbarella, both songs were played last night, which made me extremely happy! They’re both great songs and the band performed them even better live!
