METAL PULP AND PAPER: Hello Matt. So glad to be catching up with you. Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for Metal Pulp And Paper about the upcoming 2019 Aftershock Festival that you are slated to be playing at in Sacramento, California coming this October. Aftershock is a monstrous event for music fans and music lovers everywhere. It’s metal, it’s rock and roll, it’s more metal, and it’s more rock and roll. To sum it up, it’s a three-day event with three stages, with over 50 artists at the Discovery Park in beautiful Sacramento, California. Are you geared up and ready for it?
MATT COHEN: Hell yes we are.
MPAP: You were recently just added to the lineup. This has to be exciting as hell, right?
MATT: We couldn't be more excited to join this incredible lineup. We have memories associated with just about every single band on it.
MPAP: Tell us some of the best things about being a part of a music festival, especially playing at one of this magnitude?
MATT: This is definitely the largest festival and show that we have ever been a part of. Just to be there and to witness so many bands in a 3-day time period will be inspiring and I'm sure we will have a lot to learn from. We're looking forward to meeting all of the people throughout the weekend, checking many bands off our 'have to see' bucket lists, and playing our music for everyone. It's going to be nuts.
MPAP: Explain to us what is a day in the life when you’re performing at a music festival? Do you go hang out with the other bands, mingle with the fans, or kick back and relax on the tour bus until it’s time to hit the stage?
MATT: You said it pretty well. All of the above. I'm sure we will load-in pretty dang early and head straight to our stage for soundcheck on the day of the show. We are playing Sunday, so we will most definitely be mingling with fans and bands throughout the weekend. Relax time before the set will be crucial but we'll see if we can do that!
MPAP: This year’s bill has Slipknot, Staind, Tool, Korn, along with many others, including Lamb Of God, Highly Suspect, Gojira, and Babymetal. Is there any group that you’re especially looking forward to watching from the side stage the day you perform?
MATT: Again, all of the above. I've personally never seen Slipknot and that has been my initial excitement. I grew up listening to Lamb Of God and it's been some time since I've seen them. Tool, c'mon. Manson is going to be epic too.
MPAP: What’s in the crosshairs for New Language after the festival? What else do you have going on after that we should all know about?
MATT: New Language is putting our final touches on our follow-up full-length album. We've just put out the first song "House of Cards" last Friday 7/12. So, there will be an album sooner than later and touring on it. Hard to give exact details, as those are still being worked out. But there are 13 songs ready to go and we're stoked for them to be heard.
MPAP: On behalf of myself and Metal Pulp And Paper, thank you, Matt, for taking the time to answer a few questions. We look forward to what New Language does to finish out 2019 and beyond. Any last words for all your fans and all the Aftershock Festival maniacs out there that will see you in October? What do you want to tell them so they will go out and buy tickets and travel to California to see you and many others play live?
MATT: It's an honor to be a part of this. Discover new music and the bands in the fine print. Everyone is hustling to make this happen. LET'S GO.
